The Hygiene Project is a nonprofit organization committed to restoring dignity, confidence, and comfort for individuals who are unsheltered or displaced. We believe that every person deserves access to basic hygiene and feminine care products—and that these items should be offered with compassion, dignity, and respect at every step.

Cleanliness is more than a basic need. It is a source of emotional grounding, improved health, and the ability to move through the world with confidence. For many of our neighbors, the barriers to meeting these needs are steep: limited access to supplies, transportation challenges, financial strain, and the emotional weight of asking for help. We hope to bridge the gap with care that honors the whole person.

Through thoughtfully assembled hygiene kits, community partnerships, and person‑centered outreach, we work to create moments of relief and uplift for those who need it most. Our approach is simple: show up with kindness, listen with empathy, and serve in ways that affirm each person’s worth.

Access to hygiene and feminine products for people experiencing homelessness remains limited, inconsistent, and often inadequate, according to recent research and public‑health analyses. The core issue is simple: need is high, supply is unstable, and distribution systems are uneven. 

People experiencing homelessness—especially those who menstruate—face significant barriers to obtaining hygiene and menstrual products due to cost, inconsistent shelter supplies, limited public funding, and lack of accessible facilities.
